By
Rule-1: ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর পাশে, কাছে বা নিকটে বুঝাতে by বসে।
He sat by me (সে আমার পাশে বসলো)
Our house is by the river. (আমাদের বাড়িটি নদীর পাশে)
Rule-2: অনুসারে বোঝাতে by ব্যবহৃত হয়। তাই ঘড়ি অনুসারে বা ঘড়িতে বোঝাতে by watch ব্যবহৃত হয়।
What is the time by your watch? তোমার ঘড়িতে (ঘড়ি অনুসারে কয়টা বাজে?)
Rule-3: যোগাযোগের মাধ্যম বোঝাতে telephone, phone, fax, email, letter, post ইত্যাদির পূর্বে by বসে। We do business/take order by phone (over the phone/on the phone).
Rule-4: যাতায়াতের মাধ্যম বোঝাতে বা গমনার্থে by বসে।
We can go there by land (স্থলে পথে), by air (আকাশ পথে), by water (নৌপথে), by bike/taxi/car/bus/train/phone/boat/ferry/launch/steamer etc.
Rule-5: ব্যক্তি দ্বারা কোনো কাজ সম্পন্ন করলে তার পূর্বে by বসে।
The thieves were beaten by the people.
N.B: বস্তু দ্বারা কাজ সম্পন্ন হলে with বসে।

Rule 1: স্পর্শ অবস্থায় উপরে বা সংস্পর্শ বোঝাতে on বসে।
Put the book on the table. (টেবিলের উপর বইটা রাখ)
Rule 2: নির্দিষ্ট দিন বা বারের নামের পূর্বে on বসে।
I went to meet him on last Monday
Rule 3: নির্দিষ্ট তারিখে বোঝাতে on বসে।
I was born on 2 March in 1989.
Rule 4: সদস্য বোঝাতে on বসে।
There is no woman on the committee.
Rule 5: কোনো কিছু সম্বন্ধে অর্থে on বসে।
This is a book on pregnancy.
Rule 6: মাধ্যম বা যন্ত্র অর্থে on বসে।
on TV/ computer, On the radio/the phone
Rule 7: ভ্রমণের কোনো উপায় বোঝাতে on বসে।
on trains/the train, on foot, on horseback
Under এবং Along এর ব্যবহার
Under
Rule-1: কোনো কিছুর নিচে বা নিম্নস্থানে অর্থে under ব্যবহৃত হয়।
He hid under the bed. (সে বিছানার নিচে লুকালো)
He put the thermometer under my tongue.
They live under the same roof. (একই ছাদের নিচে)
Rule-2: কোনো কিছু অনুসারে (according to) অর্থে under ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The accused was arrested under the warrant of the court. (আদালতের গ্রেপ্তারি পরোয়ানা অনুসারে)
Rule-3: কোনো ব্যক্তি/প্রতিষ্ঠান/বাহিনীর নিয়ন্ত্রণে (controlled/governed by) অর্থে under ব্যবহৃত হয়।
The country is under martial law/military rule.
The restaurant is under new management.
Rule-4: প্রক্রিয়াধীন অর্থে under ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Under trial (বিচারাধীন)
under consideration (বিবেচনাধীন)
Other types of Prepositions
Along
কোনো স্থানের দূরত্ব বরাবর পাশ দিয়ে বা ধার দিয়ে (কোনো কিছুর একপাশে) বোঝাতে along ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I walked slowly along the road
I looked along the shelves for the book I needed
Across এবং Through এর ব্যবহার
Across
Rule-1: কোনো কিছুর এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পাশে যাওয়া, যেমন রাস্তা/নদী/মাঠ পার হওয়া বোঝাতে across ব্যবহৃত হয়।
He swam across the river. (সে সাঁতার দিয়ে নদী পার হলো)
He walked across the field/road.
Rule-2: এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পাশে বোঝাতে:
They are building a new bridge across the river
I drew a line across the page.
A grin spread across her face.
Rule-3: ওপারে বোঝাতে।
The bank is just across the road/street. (ব্যাংকটি রাস্তার ঠিক ওপারে)
Rule-4: কোনো স্থানের সর্বত্র জুড়ে বোঝাতে।
English is spoken across the world. (সারা বিশ্বে ইংরেজি বলা হয়)
Through
কোনো কিছুর ভেতর দিয়ে বা এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্ত বোঝাতে through ব্যবহৃত হয়।
I went there through the grassy field.
Towards
দিকে/অভিমুখে/পানে বোঝাতে towards ব্যবহৃত হয়।
She stood up and walked towards him.
Up এবং Down এর ব্যবহার
Up
কোনো কিছুর উপরের দিকে বোঝাতে up বসে।
He climbed up the stairs.
He ran up the ladder
Down
উপর থেকে নিচের দিকে বোঝাতে down ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Big tears ran down her cheeks.
Inside এবং Beyond এর ব্যবহার
Inside
কোনো কিছুর ভিতরে/মধ্যে বোঝাতে inside ব্যবহৃত হয়।
Go inside the house (বাড়ির ভিতরে/মধ্যে যাও)
Beyond
কোনো সীমার বাইরে (outside of a stated limit) অর্থে beyond ব্যবহৃত হয়।
beyond one's means/ capacity/reach- কারো সামর্থ্যের/ নাগালের বাইরে
[বিপরীত, within reach-নাগালের মধ্যে]
Appropriate Preposition
Except, without, but
Rule-1: ব্যতীত/ছাড়া (but), বাদে (apart from, not including) অর্থে except ব্যবহৃত হয়।
They all came except Sadia সাদিয়া বাদে/ছাড়া সবাই এসেছিল।
We work every day except Friday
Rule-2: না হলে/না করে (not having, not doing), ছাড়া/বিনা/অভাব/না থাকলে (lacking) অর্থে without ব্যবহৃত হয়।
They had gone two days without food.
I couldn't have done it without you.

Explanation
- To = কোনো দিকে গতিশীল অবস্থা
- From= কোন স্থান হতে/থেকে গতিশীল অবস্থা (To এর বিপরীত)
- Through= ভিতর দিয়ে অতিক্রম করা
- Into= বাইরে থেকে ভিতরের দিতে গতিশীল অবস্থা
- Out of= ভিতর থেকে বাইরের দিকে গতিশীল অবস্থা
- In= ভিতরে স্থিতাবস্থা
- Outside-বাইরে স্থিতাবস্থা
- On-তল স্পর্শ করে উপরে অবস্থান
- Over-তল স্পর্শ না করে উপরে গতিশীল অবস্থা
- Above-তল স্পর্শ না করে উপরে স্থির অবস্থা
- Under-তল স্পর্শ না করে অবিচ্ছিন্নভাবে নিচে অবস্থান
- Below=তল স্পর্শ না করে বিচ্ছিন্নভাবে নিচে অবস্থান
Rules of preposition with examples
Example
Alamgir is a student (No preposition)
We're going to town (শহরের দিকে) on the bus.
Send the message to Manik. (মানিককে/রে বার্তাটি পাঠাও)
Allah is kind/good to us. (আল্লাহ আমাদের প্রতি সদয়)
I finally killed the fly with a rolled up newspaper.
